Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a wide array of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces expanding in influence within the city.
Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of characters who will branch out from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
Dividing the Cast
Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.
This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Seekers.
What Defines the Combat Party
Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are rare.
At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the actions of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
First, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a intense initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the campaign’s events—used the enemy for his own means, invading the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.
Casimir then settled his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each character has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires revenge.
- Kattigan is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a nasty environment.
- Tyranny and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their position as prominent individuals in House Halovar could enable the party enter locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his salvation and will now accompany him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that control the city for a range of causes, making lingering locally too risky:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The cleric defied the influential house and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.
This leaves them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.
Future Episodes
Based on episode three’s Cooldown, we find out that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Explorers and Strategists tables.
Viewers can look forward to finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
