The artist has donated the complete sum of his twenty-five thousand pound honor prize money to the MVT, which operates to protect the UK's small live music spots.

He was given the prize on 16 October as his third album his work was declared the outstanding release of the last 12 months.

He has opted to hand the money over to the trust, in appreciation of the crucial part grassroots venues fulfilled in his initial steps.

"As an artist would not have achieved what I am doing today if it hadn't been for all the shows I played around the North East, and further afield, when I was beginning," said the artist. "These venues are renowned, but they are in difficulty."

Beginning in 2023, at least 150 of these venues have shut down – about one-sixth of the total UK scene.

Over the past year, top acts such as the band Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the Music Venues Trust in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by applying a small levy to their ticket prices, which benefits independent venues.

Fender also participated, generating over £100k on his 2024 arena tour to help numerous grassroots venues across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The money supported spaces that were dealing with imminent closure due to difficulties caused by floods, fires and bereavements, as well as permit problems, conflicts and noise complaints.

Additional spaces obtained monetary aid in modernizing facilities and gear that directly benefitted performers and concertgoers.

"The concept that funds from shows in big venues supports the smaller venues, where it begins for artists like me, is just logical," Fender has commented.

He is among several artists to contribute his Mercury Prize funds to charitable organizations.

When they won the trophy in 1996 for their album the album, vocalist Jarvis Cocker stated that the act would donate their cash to the organization the charity.

That year, rapper and singer Ms Dynamite shared her bounty between a few charities, including the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"And I gave a £1,000 to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics class, because I did gymnastics when I was growing up and they lacked new equipment," the artist explained to a publication.

In recent years, the band gave their funds to the youth organization that developed their group, alongside other grassroots music organisations.

Also winners that year the group donated their award to a charity for MS after a friend was found to have the disease.

"Receiving the award was sufficient," stated artist Small. "The money was the bonus but we could do without the extra, because we had the honor. So our success touched another person's life."

Last week, the trust shared it had saved two grassroots venues in that region, by bringing them into public stewardship.

One venue in Southampton and the second in the city were bought under the public acquisition program, which is supported by a national body and enthusiasts who purchase "ownership units" in the venues.
